Almira Lardizabal Hussain

2019 Fellow

Almira moved from Canada to complete her law degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies and later went on to complete a Masters in International Relations. She has spent the past 3 years working with refugee communities in a variety of capacities, in particular as a frontline caseworker, and manager for multiple London advocacy services for refugees and asylum-seekers. She is also a founding member of Springboard Youth Academy, a social enterprise summer school programme that prepares newly arrived young refugees and asylum seekers for the UK education system by proving holistic education support.

Almira is particularly passionate about creating sustainable and supportive employment for women of refugee backgrounds, giving them the income and autonomy to build their new lives with dignity and courage.
