Giuliana Mazza Coates

Autumn 2016 Fellow

Giuliana graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Italian and Spanish in 2014. As part of her degree she studied in Italy, and completed a 6-month placement working as a junior teaching assistant with children and young teenagers at a children's home in Buenos Aires. During her final year of university, she focused on the contemporary image and significance of Latin America's largest metropolises and the impact of rapid urban development on those in deprived areas. Throughout her 4-year degree Giuliana volunteered with a number of local charities and organisations including a homeless shelter helping to support the guests on a practical and emotional level and an after-school Spanish language club where she supported children with learning and behavioural difficulties.

Since graduating, Giuliana has studied Portuguese and volunteered in a favela community in Rio de Janeiro. She also worked as an events development intern for the Volunteer Fundraising department at Cancer Research UK.
