Ruby Waterworth

2017/18 Fellow

Since graduating with a degree in History from Oxford University, Ruby has been involved in a number of projects that aim to improve the rights and treatment of society’s most vulnerable members. Her desire to effect change is inspired by her own experience of being injured in a fire in 2011, in which she sustained multiple burns. Since then, she has worked for a disability rights charity, an organisation fighting global acid attacks and openDemocracy’s journalistic campaign against NHS privatisation. Most recently, she worked at the European Parliament for two Labour MEPs and at the European Federation of Public Service Unions.

Recently returned from three years in Paris and Brussels, Ruby’s sights are now set on ensuring survivors of physical trauma are properly supported. Alongside her time at Year Here, she will be assisting a project aiming to bridge the gap between physical and mental health provision in the NHS.
