Shayane Lacey

2017/18 Fellow

Shayane graduated in 2016 with a degree in Human, Social, and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge. She was drawn to Social Anthropology, thanks to her degree's emphasis on community engagement and active participation. In 2015, she spent a summer working with a youth theatre in Berlin. In collaboration with local residents and young refugees, she developed a short film about gentrification in the neighbourhood of Kreuzberg - showing the power of theatre and art in keeping communities together, and challenging inequality. Alongside her studies, she was elected as Women's Officer for her college between 2014-15, and worked as Speaker's Officer for TEDxCambridgeUniversity in 2016. Before joining Year Here, Shayane worked as a digital strategist at a marketing agency, helping to generate ideas and develop creative tech solutions for their clients.

In her spare time, she enjoys crafting short films, and exploring her interest in mindfulness, meditation, and yoga.
