Aleena Nuuman

2022 Fellow

Aleena specialised in Media and Communications in the creative industry before recently completing an MSc in Anthropology and Development. Understanding inequality through the lens of the global fashion industry led her to interests that lie at the intersection of international development, social enterprise, and value creation. Growing up, studying, and working between the American midwest, Pakistan, Italy, and the UK taught her to relate the local to the global, and understand issues surrounding identity, nationhood, and growth. She previously worked with an arts NGO in Pakistan, as a social researcher, and on a Medical Anthropology research project; through which, she had the opportunity to co-write and present a paper at the Royal Anthropological Institute conference titled: “Excavating ‘insights’ in a social science healthcare consultancy project in SW England. She believes in the power of inter-disciplinary work that bridges creativity and a multi-epistemological evidence base to solve society’s most pressing problems.
