Alex Delaney

2020 Fellow

After graduating with a journalism degree, Alex freelanced in broadcast news but became disillusioned by the cynical motivations of news organisations. A friend’s suggestion that he would enjoy PR and a chance to work for PlayStation led Alex to the videogame industry.

As a gamer Alex enjoyed the role; it offered development opportunities and great experience, but he never felt settled. The sense that he could be doing something with a positive impact remained, while his distress over the political climate of the country grew.

After four years Alex left his job with the goal of doing something that helped people, which led him to Year Here. Alex is committed to tackling structural race and class issues and creating more opportunities for people to escape poverty.

When he isn’t bouldering, you’ll find him either buried in a book or trying to write his own.
