Sophie is a writer and social entrepreneur. Across all her work, she is concerned with developing, and helping others develop, imaginative responses to social issues. She draws her expertise from a unique career spanning the arts, social enterprise and government.
She was the co-founder (with Alain de Botton) and CEO (from 2007-10) of The School of Life and founder and CEO of Dept Store for the Mind. She has also been Head of Education and Research at iniva, Curator of Public Programmes at Tate Modern, Associate Curator for Artangel, Senior Advisor at The Young Foundation, and an Advisor on Social Action for the Cabinet Office and the Number 10 Policy Unit. She is the co-author of the bestselling photography book Street Photography Now (winner The Observer’s “Genre Photography Book of the Year” Award in 2010) and her new book on Family Photography is due to be published by Thames and Hudson in Spring 2016.
